How to create a textured abstract painting

 

1.                   Start by selecting a good canvas. We would recommend a deep edged

            canvas of approx 3.5cm to stay within current styles.

2.                   You will need a container to mix your texture, a mixing spoon, gesso and

             sand or grit.

3.                   Mix in approx 5 part gesso to sand. You can add PVA in 1 part to add

            bonding.

4.                   Mix until consistency of porridge.

5.                   Apply to the canvas and work into desired shape or style.

6.                   Your texture will take approx 1 day to dry and should be rock hard.

Tips

1.                   Draw any pattern onto the canvas in felt pen and then add the texture.

2.                   Try only covering the canvas in small amounts of texture and the rest

            paint.

Warnings

1.                   Do not mix too much sand.

2.                   Do not add color to the gesso as the gesso will dilute the color.

3.                   Create pattern within the first few hours before skin starts to form.
